For the past several years Sima Kim has established himself as one of the most prolific new acts you can come across. This young, classically trained Korean composer and musician has so far covered it all – electro-acoustic pieces, piano based minimalism, ambient drone, tape experiments and all possible amalgams between them. So when I heard he’s putting a tape through Toulousse’s BLWBCK I expected something in that vein. Surprised is a weak word for what I heard in the promo I was sent.Ur Silhouette is an entirely new side of Kim’s music. Here his neo-classical and ambient work gives place to six delicate rhythm driven pieces. Still atmospheric, still super precise as usual work but very diverse and bold. We got some eclectic hip-hop (“Then I Could Die Today” with J?l?l S?l??m and “I’ll Lose Every Single Bet” with Josué Josué) and dubstep-soaked tnes. All built by micro sounds and simple beats both enshrouded with thick atmospheres. That makes the time spent with Ur Silhouette somehow tense until it finally outbursts and ends with “Isolated”, a killer piece lifted up until the very clouds by the outstanding voice of Gregory Hoepffner (Almeeva), who also mastered the record. Get ready to go on the electronic ride of your life. European-based South Korean producer Sima Kim, dropped his very first beat EP “Ur Silhouette” on BLWBCK last week, and it is a relaxing roller coaster ride of sorts. The entire six-track EP hops from genre to genre, featuring trip-hop, dubstep and ambient electronic music. With every other song purely instrumental, “Then I Could Just Die Today” contains quasi-aggressive hip-hop, while “I’ll Lose Every Single Bet” features Spanish rap vocals by Josue´ Josue´. “Isolated” is soft and relaxing, with lulled vocals, thick synths and dark bass. No matter what kind of mood you’re in, “Ur Silhouette” will put you in a relaxed state of mind. – Noise Porn

C’est un personnage mystère que l’on sélectionne cette semaine puisque le compte Twitter retenu fait état du pseudo “pas_de_deux_”. Après lecture de quelques tweets, de liens, de retweets systématiques, on arrivera à la conclusion (qui reste à confirmer) qu’il s’agit d’un deuxième compte derrière lequel se cache Sima Kim, musicien d’origine coréenne qui nous avait déjà sollicité mais dont nous n’avions jamais parlé. Sima Kim est déjà un peu connu pour sa musique ambient aux influences néo-classique, des publications chez Rural Colors, Audio Gourmet Netlabel et Chemical Tapes, des collaborations avec Saito Koji et Yuco tout en se faisant remixer par Wil Bolton ou Hakobune. De quoi faire quelques connexions avec une sphère musicale qui nous est familière. Comme à notre habitude, nous allons faire un rapide parcours de contenu en écoute jusqu’à la dernière production de Sima Kim qui ressemble à un virage à 90°. Voici la grosse surprise avec la dernière production en date de Sima Kim qui sort sur le label français BLWBCK dans un registre complètement différent. Pour mémoire, BLWBCK édite notamment les productions de Saåad, et globalement une musique plus sombre que ce à quoi Sima Kim nous a habitué. Il est trop tôt pour dire si ce virage est une exception, mais voici que le coréen se met aux rythmiques et aux collaborations avec chanteurs et MC pour un résultat fort réussi alliant witch house, flow hip-hop et post-dubstep. – Etherreal
