DAWNSHAPE – Either This / Much Long

BLWBCK031 – Release date : February 28th, 2013
digital | download

Dawnshape is a parisian trio runned by Antoine Ollivier (Kid North, Painting By Numbers), Gregory Hoepffner (Almeeva, Kid North, Painting By Numbers,… ) & Sébastien Hurtel since 2009. Their music is a constant duel between pop efficiency and thirst for experimentation, led by Antoine’s simple and sensible vocal melodies through unusual song structures and odd harmonies. This contrast is sublimed on the new single’ Either This’, starting with their typical detuned blurry chords to end in a rich and beautiful pop anthem full of textured key-strings with an unwaveringly emphatic conclusion. Breaking with such an ornamental piece, Much Long delivers more of a tense and harsh observation, plunging us into a muffled gloom, a surge of torpor tainted with restrained rage. Dawnshape has never sounded more pop, bold and concise than with these two songs, where stark and surd states meet the grandiose blaze of disarray.

PRESS QUOTES

Pop music has never sounded so weird, yet intelligent. And this you can totally blame on Dawnshape. This Parisian trio (with members involved in other crazy acts as Almeeva, Painting By Numbers, Kid North) has been doing its wicked thing since 2009, but “Either This / Much Long” is bringing the craziness to a whole new level. Dawnshape’s brand new single is officially out tomorrow, but our friends at BLWBCK were that kind to let us be the first to share it with the world. Both pieces in Either This / Much Long are experimental, unusual, but really accessible. Antoine, Greg & Sébastien showcased outstanding and unique approach to song-writing, thus remaining sufficiently complex and friendly in an amalgam of dissonant chords, light melodies, simple but intense vocal lines and tight drumming. BLWBCK are always digging up the best stuff from the over-saturated international sound underground and Dawnshape is not an exclusion. Check the tunes, check the videos, tell your friends that pop music can actually be cool. – Angel S. for Stereofox

– Indie Rock Mag (#Stream Of The Day)
